Jeff Wilcox, Apple Silicon chip master, moved to Intel. Will this departure have implications for future Apple Silicon chips?
With all the positive feedback and numbers from Apple’s M1-series Silicon chips, some argue that the Cupertino-based company has already made the right decision by ditching Intel. That being said, it looks like the latter still has the resources to bounce back. Apparently, one of the leaders of the M1 chip project, Jeff Wilcox, recently left the Apple brand in favor of Intel.
Jeff Wilcox, Apple Silicon Chip Master, Moves to Intel
At least that’s what our man announces on his LinkedIn page. According to his profile, he would take up a new position at Intel as an Intel employee and take on the position of technical director of the engineering design group. Prior to that, Jeff Wilcox served as Director of Mac Systems Architecture at Apple for eight years.
Will this departure have implications for future Apple Silicon chips?
Jeff Wilcox was especially helpful in overseeing the entire system architecture, signal integrity, and power integrity. He also played a fundamental role in Apple’s move to Apple Silicon chips. And while it may seem that Intel poached Jeff Wilcox, it should be noted that before joining Cupertino, he worked at Intel. He even briefly worked at NVIDIA. In fact, our man is finally returning to his first love, so to speak, in Intel.
It’s still too early to tell if the departure of Jeff Wilcox will have a negative impact on the future development of Apple Silicon chips, but there is no doubt that the Apple brand knows how to manage the departure of some of its employees internally. In any case, let’s hope that this will not entail any special consequences. To be continued!
