According to reports citing a post on Chinese social network Weibo, the launch of the Motorola Razr 3 is apparently scheduled for the coming months. Rumors of a third-generation Motorola foldable smartphone launch came after Shen Jun, Motorola’s general manager, reportedly posted a teaser of the device on Weibo last week. While the teaser poster doesn’t reveal much, it does offer a silhouette of the alleged Motorola Razr 3 – along with the logo of Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor – the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1.
Motorola Razr 3: what we know so far
According to reports, Motorola has been working on the Razr 3 foldable smartphone for some time now, and 91mobiles showed live images of the upcoming smartphone earlier this month. Now, a teaser post suggests the company is close to launching the device, which could be unveiled next week and go on sale through retail channels in China by the end of July this year.
Not much can be gleaned from the Motorola Razr 3 teaser poster, with the exception of the V-shaped silhouette, similar to the clamshell smartphone form factor. Previously purported live images of the smartphone showed a boxier yet more refined design of the smartphone compared to its previous generations. The device also had a glossy body, two cameras on the outside and one LED flash.
Inside, the smartphone may also have a single front-facing camera for video calls and self-portraits.
One big change interested users can expect from the upcoming foldable phone is the flagship specs. According to reports, the Motorola Razr 3 may have a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, which the new teaser seems to confirm. Other key specs include up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.
In terms of cameras, the Razr 3 can offer a combination of a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 32MP front camera. There may also be two color options – Quartz Black and Tranquil Blue. Given that this will be a new generation device, users can also expect a new folding mechanism that is hopefully more durable.
The revived Razr line of foldable phones hasn’t quite reached the cult status enjoyed by the original Motorola Razr foldable phones due to a host of issues such as lackluster specs, dull durability, and high price. Going forward, it will be interesting to see if the new Razr 3 manages to address these issues.
