Realme and Oppo, members of the BBK family, recently showcased their 150W fast charging technologies at MWC 2022 to fully charge a 4,500mAh battery in just 15 minutes.
OnePlus, a member of the same family, has also announced that the company will soon introduce a smartphone with 150W fast charging. Here’s everything we know so far.
OnePlus Nord 3 could get 150W fast charging!
Oppo announced at its press conference held during Mobile World Congress 2022 that it is partnering with OnePlus on a 150W charging solution that will debut in an upcoming OnePlus phone in the second quarter, around April, May or June.
However, neither the name nor the full characteristics of the device, the company does not disclose. Android Central is reporting that the device could be an upcoming Nord series smartphone, most likely the Nord 3. The phone is reportedly based on the Realme GT Neo 3, which the company showed off with 150W fast charging at its MWC event.
Moreover, according to a report by Pricebaba in collaboration with whistleblower Mukul Sharma, a OnePlus smartphone with support for 150W charging will be launched in India by the end of May or early June.
Founder and CEO Pete Lau stated that the technology “will debut on a OnePlus smartphone for the first time in the second quarter of 2022″in the same forum post describing the improvements coming to OxygenOS.
Oppo’s 150W SuperVOOC charging technology (likely the same one used in the upcoming OnePlus device) can fully charge a 4,500mAh battery in 15 minutes, less than half the time it takes at 65W (38 minutes). The same technology can charge your phone to half, 50%, in just five minutes.
The 150W technology, like all previous implementations, is based on OPPO’s proprietary charger, which uses two charging pumps to supply power. The company is sticking with a dual-cell architecture, and the 150W adapter will provide a 20V/7.5A split-half charge to charge two cells at the same time. Each charge pump converts a 20V/3.75A charge into a 5V/15A charge for the phone’s battery.
