How to fix Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 developer error 5479
You may also encounter Developer Error 5479 between multiplayer matches in Modern Warfare 2. As mentioned, we’ve put together a few workarounds for this error.
Restart your computer or console
Before using any of the methods below, we recommend that you restart your computer or console. You need to exit the game and restart your device. This method has worked for a few players who have experienced this issue. While some players required one restart, some required more than a couple of restarts.
Check out our next method if this method didn’t work for you.
Disable overlays
Several preset and installed overlays may interfere with or conflict with Modern Warfare 2. Various overlays such as AMD Relieve, Razer Synapse, Discord, and Steam may be causing this developer error. So be sure to disable them before starting MW2.
Clear background apps
You can try uninstalling apps or programs that are taking up too much memory. More importantly, uninstall apps that take up too much of your internet. For example, Google Chrome can increase bandwidth and memory (RAM). Some background apps can also interfere with your game.
You can press the keyboard shortcut CTRL + Shift + Del to launch Task Manager. Then you just need to click “End task”to remove unwanted apps or software. In addition to this, we also recommend using an Ethernet rather than a wireless connection for a stable and uninterrupted connection.
Disable Antivirus or Windows Firewall
While these programs protect you from malware or malicious content, they can also prevent the game from running. You can temporarily disable the installed antivirus program and Windows Firewall. Then run MW2 to see if you are facing Dev error code 5479.
Disable Controlled Folder Access
This is a workaround suggested by several players in the COD community. Follow these steps:
- Go to the “Windows Security”section. You can press the shortcut keys CTRL + I to launch Windows Settings.
- Select the “Privacy and Security”option located in the left pane and select “Virus & Threat Protection”.
- Then select the Manage Ransomware Protection option.
- If the Controlled Folder Access setting is enabled, toggle the setting to disable it.
Reinstall COD Modern Warfare 2
If none of the workarounds mentioned above worked, we recommend that you reinstall the game. While this may take a long time, it may fix the error. So, uninstall the game and then install it again. Finally, launch the game to check if the error persists.
In addition, we recommend that you submit a ticket to Activision Support if reinstalling the game did not work. You need to describe and specify the problems that occur when a failure occurs. As a result, they will return to you after a while for help.
