Overwatch 2 Queue Timeout: How Long and Is It Fixed?

Overwatch 2 players have faced long queues, ranging from 300 to a whopping 20,000 players. This is not surprising, because the game has moved from a paid model to a free-to-play one and has gained a huge wave of eager players from day one. This might make you wonder – why are there such long queues in Overwatch 2? How long is the OW 2 queue and is it fixed right now? Here are the answers to your questions.

How long are the queues for Overwatch 2?

At the time of writing (two days after launch) this is the wait time for Overwatch 2.

  • If you see a queue of 20,000 players in front of you, expect a waiting time of around 20 minutes.
  • If you see 300 players ahead of you, you can expect to be in the game in about 7-10 minutes.
  • Those who are standing in line of 50 players can get into the game in 4-5 minutes.

Note. This may change depending on server load.

Why are Overwatch 2 queues so long?

There are several reasons why the queues are so long:

  • You are trying to play during peak hours in your region. You can log in at off-peak times or wait until the queue is full.
  • There is a DDoS attack on the OW servers, as it was on launch day, or a general overload of the servers. As explained by Cloudflare, DDoS attacks are an attempt to disrupt normal server traffic by overloading it with a stream of Internet traffic. This will lead to an abnormal number of players in the queue, but will be resolved by the developers.

You can change the region of the OW2 server to see if you can get to the server, but note that this can cause latency issues.

Has Overwatch 2 queue been fixed?

As of this writing (October 6, 2022), many players are still experiencing long queues. But as the initial teething issues are fixed and servers become more stable, we can expect wait times to get shorter and shorter. Until then, you may also see login errors and connection error messages.
