The next iPad Pro could launch in spring 2024, replacing the current IPS LCD screen with more sophisticated OLED display technology.
- What’s happening? Apple will likely launch new iPad Pro models with OLED screens and the upcoming M3 chips in spring 2024.
- Why care? M3 will increase the speed, and OLED will make the image clearer. But will iPadOS evolve enough to harness the processing power of the iPad?

When will the iPad Pro M3 be released?
Mark Gurman laid out his expectations for upcoming Mac launches throughout 2023 in the latest edition of his Power On Bloomberg newsletter. In short, the reporter expects two new M3-based iMacs to arrive later this year.
Gurman added that the upcoming Apple M3 silicon should also appear in the new iPad Pros, which he expects to arrive sometime in the first half of 2024.
“The M3 chip will also appear in the updated iPad Pro with OLED screens, which I am told is scheduled for release in the first half of 2024,” reads the newsletter. OLED technology will provide higher resolution, better contrast, brighter colors and deeper blacks.
An earlier Gurman report suggested that Apple may be experimenting with larger iPad Pro sizes beyond the current 11-inch and 12.9-inch models.
The fifth generation iPad Pro model was released in April 2021, giving you a reasonable estimate of when models with the M3 OLED display might arrive. The iPad Pro was the first Apple tablet to replace the A-series iPhone chips with the new desktop-grade M1 chip.
All this power, and for what?
The current sixth-generation iPad Pro is a spec upgrade that includes the M2 chip, mini-LED backlighting, ProRes video recording, and Apple Pencil pointing. Unfortunately, even though the iPad Pro is equipped with an overly powerful processor, its true potential remains untapped due to the limitations of iPadOS.
However, this may change as Apple is rumored to be working on a version of macOS for the iPad Pro. At the same time, Apple is believed to be working on its first touchscreen Mac, which could launch in 2025. Gurman mentioned in the newsletter that “already in 2025 there will be even more interesting Mac updates.”
