The first two Monument Valley games coming to Netflix in 2024 will be the same as the iPhone versions, including in-app purchases.
- What’s happening? Next year, new game service Netflix will add two games from the award-winning Monument Valley franchise.
- Why care? These games are currently available on Apple Arcade. If Netflix adds them, it could mean that Monument Valley games will leave Apple’s game subscription service next year.

Monument Valley games coming to Netflix
The Verge reports that both Monument Valley and Ustwo’s Monument Valley 2 will be available to Netflix subscribers starting in 2024.
As with other Netflix games, the games will be playable at no extra charge if you have a subscription. The Netflix versions of the games will be the same as their iPhone counterparts and will come with all in-app purchases.
This is not the first popular iPhone game to be distributed on Netflix. Canadian developer Snow, best known for its Alto’s Adventure franchise, recently announced that its new game Laya’s Horizon will be launching on Netflix Games.
Since its inception in November 2021, Netflix Games has amassed 55 titles.
How about Monument Valley on Apple Arcade?
This is big news because Monument Valley is not just a game. This surreal exploration of fantastical architecture and impossible geometry debuted on the iOS platform in April 2014 but has since spread to other platforms such as Windows, Steam and Nintendo Switch.
Many games run on Apple Arcade with an exclusivity window. Apple typically removes games from the service when its developer contract expires, usually due to low engagement. After a game’s exclusivity period expires, the developer may port the game to other platforms without retribution from Apple.
It’s not yet clear if the Monument Valley games will be available on Apple Arcade and Netflix simultaneously in 2024 or just on Netflix.
The video streaming service also announced more than 40 mobile games it will release this year, with 70 more in development. Terra Nil from Free Lives will release on March 28, and Mighty Quest: Rogue Palace on April 18.
Netflix cloud gaming service
Netflix is also working on a cloud gaming service that will let you play games over the internet without downloading or installing anything.
Currently, you can see game information in the Netflix app, but you must download the game from the App Store to play it. The ultimate goal is to make games playable wherever Netflix is.
“We believe that cloud gaming will allow us to provide easy access to games on any screen,” said Mike Verdi, Vice President of Games at Netflix. “Our shared vision is that our member can play games on any Netflix device they have.”
Netflix’s cloud gaming service is still in its early stages of development, and it could be years before it’s available. Conveniently, the new EU rules will force Apple to allow alternative app stores and app downloads on its iPhone. Microsoft is already working on an iPhone app store dedicated to Xbox cloud gaming.
