PGA launches new augmented reality app for kids

PGA launches augmented reality app for beginner golfers. Safari Par-Tee can run games.

Young aspiring golfers can now turn their close and familiar environment into a digital green. All thanks to the same technology found in Niantic’s iconic Pokémon Go. Indeed, PGA Jr. League has just introduced Safari Par-Tee, a brand new augmented reality mobile golf platform available on iOS and Android.

Trigger, the developer of the application we are interested in today, developed it using Niantic’s Lightship kit for augmented reality applications. Thus, players can use their smartphone to scan their surroundings and enjoy the interactive golf course right where they are.

While Safari Par-Tee is aimed at younger golfers – featuring cute animal avatars – its augmented reality capabilities make the app interesting for seniors like parents. The game offers a range of multiplayer options allowing players to compete against other players locally in real time or connect with other players via Wi-Fi.

The game also allows players to organize competitions with different stages and different clubs. For beginners in golf, the game also introduces the basic rules and styles of play. The game itself offers three different courses, each with its own objective obstacles.

Video golf games are already well represented for adults. Examples include the PGA TOUR 2K21, the Tiger Woods PGA Tour, and the EA Sports PGA Tour, which was recently postponed. The introduction of the option for children is a very interesting initiative in many respects.

Safari Par-Tee is already available for download on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
