FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have reconnected Dark Souls 3 PC servers seven months after the security breach was discovered. Then Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 should follow.
While online games are very popular among gamers, they pose a number of challenges for publishers and developers. The aspect of security in particular is very important. After all, it’s about providing a web service, of which there are so many, and no one is immune from flaws and hacks of all kinds. A few months ago, FromSoftware paid the price for Dark Souls. Today the situation has practically returned to normal.
FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Reconnect Dark Souls 3 PC Servers
Seven long months after FromSoftware closed its Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 PC servers due to a security issue, the studio is finally starting to reopen them. “Dark Souls 3 PC online features are back on,”reads the official Dark Souls Twitter account. “We’re working on restoring these features for all other #DarkSouls games and will let you know when they’re back up and running.”
Seven months after the security breach was discovered
Last January, we learned that attackers found a flaw in Dark Souls 3 that allowed them to remotely execute code and take control of a player’s computer. FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco then shut down PvP servers for PC versions of Dark Souls games while they work on a fix.
Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 should follow
Both organizations hoped to reconnect their servers for the February release of Elden Ring. It can’t be done. In May, FromSoftware said it was “in the process of restoring servers for Dark Souls PC games”starting with Dark Souls 3. It’s hard to say what took another three months. In any case, we hope that FromSoftware and Bandai Namco will be able to restore the Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 servers soon. In the meantime, you can join another player’s game of Dark Souls 3 on PC.
Online features for the PC version of Dark Souls III have been reactivated.
We are working on restoring these features for all other #DarkSouls games and will let you know when they return to work.
