Facebook will close its Campus feature. Users will now need to use groups.
After all, it’s pretty ironic when you think about how Facebook came to be. Initially, it was a way for high school or college students to keep in touch with each other before becoming a full-fledged social platform. Especially since after all this, Facebook decided to create a “Campus” feature in order to return to its roots, so to speak.
Facebook will close the Campus feature
Today it turns out that the Campus will soon be gone. Facebook has notified users via an in-app message that it is closing the Campus feature and that all profiles, groups, posts and other data will be deleted. Users who want to keep their data can do so by uploading it all before March 10th.
The message sent to affected users read, in part: “Since we launched the Campus pilot project, our mission has always been to help bring communities together. But we’ve learned that the best way to help these students is through Facebook groups.”
Users will now need to use groups
A Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch: “We have decided to end our Facebook Campus pilot project. We’ve learned a lot about the best ways to help students, and one of the most effective ways to keep students connected is Facebook Groups. We have informed students from participating universities that the campus will soon be unavailable and have suggested appropriate Facebook groups.
The campus, of course, no longer exists, but finally, Groups allow you to do the same without focusing on student communities. Hopefully affected users will find their ratings in the groups.
