Apple has reportedly resumed its Twitter marketing campaign. Amazon will consider doing the same.
According to Elon Musk, Apple would “completely restart”its advertising activities on Twitter. The billionaire made the comment during a Spaces Twitter chat he streamed from his private jet over the weekend. On November 28, Elon Musk said that Apple “almost completely stopped advertising on Twitter”and even threatened to remove the platform’s iOS client from its App Store. “Are they against free speech?”the Twitter CEO asked his followers before talking about censorship…
Apple would restart its Twitter marketing campaign
The New York Times reports that Apple has temporarily suspended its Twitter marketing campaigns following the November 19 shooting at the Q Club in Colorado Springs. The newspaper notes that brands tend to do this after shootings and other disasters, mainly because they do not want to see their products next to tragedy tweets.
Two days after the furious attacks on Apple on Twitter, Elon Musk announced that he met with Tim Cook. “We have resolved the misunderstanding that it may eventually be removed from the App Store,”he wrote. “Tim made it clear that Apple never thought about it.”This Saturday, he added that Apple is the biggest advertiser on Twitter. On the same day, he also thanked advertisers “for getting back on Twitter.”
Amazon will consider doing the same
Meanwhile, Platformer’s Zoe Schiffer revealed over the weekend that Amazon also plans to restart Twitter marketing campaigns. The retail giant is said to have even pledged to spend around $100 million a year “in anticipation of certain security improvements to the company’s advertising platform.”
The news of the return of Apple and Amazon to Twitter comes after several reports claim that the company’s advertising revenue has declined significantly since Elon Musk took over in late October. In the first week of the World Cup, the company reportedly received only 20% of the advertising revenue it had expected to generate during that period, The Times reported. The company has also reportedly cut earnings forecasts for the latest quarter significantly in recent weeks. Twitter originally forecast around $1.4 billion for this quarter, and that figure was set to drop to $1.1 billion.
Amazon also plans to restart Twitter ads for about $100 million a year, pending some security tweaks to the company’s ad platform, according to a source familiar with the situation. https://t.co/VWQJX4HZEp
