One of the most anticipated aspects of OW2 is the PvE mode, and its release date is speculated to be 2023. This guide explains everything there is to know about this mode, including its storyline, cost, and more.
Overwatch 2 PvE release date speculation
Blizzard has been pretty transparent about their updates and news related to OW2. According to the content roadmap they unveiled for Overwatch 2, 2023 is full of new heroes, maps, skins, battle passes, modes, and PvE is kicking off.
When will PvE be released?
With Blizzard busy with upcoming new seasons, balance changes, and more, the PvE mode/story campaign is expected to release in the second half of 2023 – most likely later this year after November.
According to what we know from the Overwatch 2 broadcast, players can expect the PvE part of OW2 to take the form of seasons rather than releasing them all at once. So the maps will be available as part of the seasonal PvE content.
Wrath of the Bride was exclusive to Overwatch 2 and a fantastic way to combine co-op, challenges, and a Halloween theme. And just like previous Overwatch Archives events, we can do co-op missions on modified versions of the maps of Rio, Busan, Route 66, etc. With the addition of a very angry Ramattra (leader of Sector Zero), the story mode could be more interesting now that he loves to make his enemies suffer just like him. If he’s the main boss we’re facing, then I hope he doesn’t…push us to the ground. I’m sorry.
The campaign mode is great for fans who have already invested in each character’s story. Plus, it might even attract a new audience that doesn’t like to play PvP but is intrigued by these characters. It will be interesting to see how this moves the story forward and makes us love our favorite characters even more.
Will Overwatch 2 PvE be free?
While the base game is now free and we’re getting free PvE Halloween events, there’s a chance the PvE mode will be paid. The cost is still unclear – we will wait for official confirmation from Blizzard.
Like the four-player PvE game modes we got through Overwatch Uprising, Overwatch Retribution, and Overwatch Storm Rising, which were all free, we can expect the new PvE game modes to be free in Overwatch 2. Many players will argue that because previous Overwatch was a paid game, and Overwatch 2 took on a free-to-play model, giving away PvE modes for free may no longer be. But since the launch of Overwatch 2, we have already received a PvE mode as a Halloween Terror seasonal event.
Is PvE cancelled?
Fortunately, the PvE mode has not been canceled or thrown away. This has been delayed because Blizzard is still working on their 2023 roadmap.
Will there be skill trees?
As seen in the demo video during Blizzcon 2019, players can look forward to talents and skill trees that grant various unique abilities to characters. There’s more here – check it out if you missed it!
