It was revealed earlier last month that Sony had indeed patented the cover design for the PlayStation 5 console, and now Sony has finally unveiled the first collection in the series. The Galaxy Collection PS5 Console Case will be released in January 2022 and will offer 5 different color options.
From the trailer, we can see that the Galaxy collection will include colors such as black, red, pink, blue and purple. The actual names of these color variants will likely be revealed closer to launch. Console covers will be available for both the standard Playstation 5 and the Digital Edition. Galaxy Collection colors match those of the DualSense controller, some of which were sold in some regions through PlayStation Direct.
Sony unveils covers for PlayStation 5 consoles scheduled to launch in January 2022
The release of console cases hasn’t been without its fair share of controversy, as Dbrand famously faced legal action from Sony earlier this year. In particular, Dbrand was forced to abandon their custom PlayStation bezels that they had been offering for months since the PS5’s launch. Dbrand faceplates have hit the market again, but this time they’ve taken the shots in Sony’s marketing.
Official cases for Sony PlayStation consoles will reportedly be available in the US for $54.99. The actual retail price of the console cover will, of course, differ from the direct conversion price. PlayStation will also offer new Dualsense color options in February.
It will be interesting to see if console cases reach us and what their price is. Given that fans have demanding color options for PS5 bezels, it’s probably a smart move by Sony to turn potential customers away from Dbrand and offer an official console cover.
