The upcoming version of AltStore will use the MacDirtyCow exploit to remove the 3 app limit.

While AltStore has long been one of the most popular ways to download apps on iPhone and iPad, one of the concerns for users has always been the three-app limit.

As the AltStore team mentioned in a tweet posted earlier this month as shown above, a future update will remove the somewhat annoying three-app limit, and this will be done using the MacDirtyCow exploit.

As far as we know, a MacDirtyCow-based mechanism will be built into the AltStore app so that those running iOS or iPadOS 14.x-16.1.2 can download more than three apps at once. It will appear as an option in the app as shown below:

This feature is currently being tested in AltStore v1.6.1 beta, which is only available to Patreons (paid subscribers), however we can safely assume that this feature will become available to all users once the beta is complete.

In addition to removing the three-app limit, we also see a clear cache button in this version, as well as the ability to fix source codes in iOS 12.

We don’t know yet when AltStore v1.6.2 will be available to the general public, but it’s always nice to have something like this to look forward to. After all, no one likes limits.

Will you be using AltStore to download more than three applications at the same time? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below.
