All of us at least once dreamed of picking up a guitar and playing our favorite songs, but this often remains a pipe dream due to our busy lives. So would it be great if there was an app that could help us learn how to play guitar from iPad and iPhone? Again, with thousands of apps on the market, finding the right one is not an easy task.
So here’s the Gibson Guitar Lessons & Tuner app that promises to help you become the guitarist you want to be. Does he live up to his promises? The answer is in this review.
Why should you use the app to learn how to play the guitar?
Since many talented people can teach you how to play the guitar and improve your skills, you may wonder why someone would have to depend on an app to learn it. But, of course, the biggest disadvantage is that you cannot take a teacher with you everywhere. That’s where the iPad or iPhone app can help!
In addition, many apps provide unlimited versions and even the ability to practice with a song of your choice. So even if you have a teacher to guide you, these apps will still come in handy to practice and work on your skills.
How does Gibson make it easy to learn to play guitar using your iPhone or iPad?
Since you now know how important it is to use the Gibson app when learning to play the guitar and honing your skills, it’s time to take a look at some of the benefits of using the app.
- Interactive Learning: The Gibson app provides a fun and stimulating learning experience by providing real-time feedback from within the app based on how you play.
- Walkthrough: Whatever your skill level, you can improve with easy-to-follow step-by-step video tutorials. Then test what you’ve learned with interactive activities.
- Learn from the pros: The app has lessons from many pros, video tutorials, and interactive gameplay to test your guitar skills and keep you motivated.
- Training calendar. Another great feature of the app is that you can track your progress and get reminded of your goal with the workout calendar.
- Tons of famous songs to rehearse: In addition to those in the video sessions, you can also rehearse with a vast collection of songs from iconic artists such as The Beatles, Aerosmith, BB King, Eric Clapton, Santana, KISS, Tom Petty and countless others. That’s not all; Every week there are new tunes to practice.
- Built-in Digital Amplifier: Instead of being dependent on external EQ apps, you can use the built-in Jam guide feature to perform your jam sessions well. You have to rely on all those bulky cables, just plug in your wired headphones with a good headphone adapter and you’re good to go.
- Tuner: Apart from the amplifier, you can also use the built-in tuner according to your needs. Users can choose between automatic or manual string detection. What’s more, if you don’t know how to use it, there’s even a video guide to help you.
- Gibson TV: I think you can understand how serious the developers were when they created this app. It brings together original series about guitars, music and culture, where you can get inspired and motivated by hearing the stories of your idols.
- Metronome: This is a device that can make an audible click or any other sound at regular intervals to help you concentrate. With the Gibson app, you have the option built in and you don’t have to depend on any other external app.
My experience with the Gibson app
Now that we’ve explored all of the app’s USP, it may seem unconvincing to many, so I’ve tested all of the app’s features to make sure it actually lives up to its promise.
From the moment I installed the app, it gave me confidence that I made the right choice, especially because of the user interface. It exudes professionalism while being relatively easy for beginners. The installation process is simple, with off-screen instructions.
The app asks a few questions based on which it organizes content for you. Since I was a beginner, I answered in this way and I must say that I was impressed with the content library. But that’s not all; There are several options to check out and I have gone through each one. Here are the details about each feature:
Lessons
As the name suggests, here you take the first steps in learning to play the guitar. It will change depending on your levels. You can choose any level you are currently on and move up.
The lessons are sorted according to what kind of guitarist you want to be, such as rhythm guitarist or lead guitarist. Once you select the lessons of your choice, you will see the path.
The best part about this section is that the app has taken care to make the lessons as easy as possible by doing everything step by step.
Songs
This is another one of my favorite places in the app. Here you can find a huge catalog of songs to practice. The best part is that even these songs are divided into different courses and levels.
Despite the presence of several categories, it is easy to choose a song, and not get confused about what to choose. This is an area where many applications and services struggle, and the folks at Gibson have been able to classify their catalog without creating confusion.
AMP
Don’t you remember I mentioned that the Gibson app also gets an amplifier? Well, this is where you can find it. To use this feature, you must use wired headphones, and if they have a built-in microphone, this will further improve the sound quality.
No, you must not use a Bluetooth headset. There may be some audio delays as the data is being transmitted over the wireless network. Here you get access to practice tracks, a Jam section, and the ability to record your work.
For those who don’t know how to use all these features, you can simply use the “Help”option which explains all the points accordingly.
Guides
Here you will get video tutorials from one of the famous people in the industry. The best part is that each one featured in the app has excelled in their field and will give you lessons on how you can also be the best at it.
Episodes
This is another interesting part of the application where you will find original series on various topics related to music and much more. When you are not studying, you can wander around the area to keep you interested and motivated.
Other features
In addition, there is also the ability to easily access the AMP, Tuner, Metronome and settings options, where you can adjust the sound quality and contact support.
What I think of the Gibson App
I knew this app was from one of the best music brands. Gibson is where most people buy their dream guitar. I also raised my expectations, and you know what? The app works much better than I expected.
The app has everything you need to learn how to play the guitar and the way it organizes its content based on your skills is amazing. There are no gimmicks here and it will please anyone who is into the guitar.
I love the metronome and the Gibson TV, which keep me enthusiastic and motivated. The user interface is amazing as well as the content library.
Opportunities for improvement
Among all the reviews I’ve done for iGeeksBlog, there are only a few cases where I haven’t been able to find any cons. Gibson guitar lessons and tuner is one of them!
Aside from the high cost and the small number of tutors in the guide section (which Gibson promises to keep adding), I have no other suggestions.
In fact, I’m excited to see what the team will do to improve the app in the future, as it’s already loaded with some great features.
Should You Install the Gibson Guitar App?
Instead of just using a brand name to attract users, Gibson has worked through every element of the app, and you’ll feel the same when you use it. The Gibson TV series is well done, as is every class. You will appreciate the well-detailed class, both the AI โโalgorithm and the video classes.
The tuner is another feature that my friend who plays the guitar quite well appreciated. Overall, I would definitely recommend getting this app.
