Hyperixa’s IPSW Firmware Signature Status Checker is also available for non-jailbroken devices.

Just this week, Hyperixa released a neat little app called IPSW that can be used to check if a particular firmware version of an Apple iPhone or iPad was being signed at the time of verification. The IPSW app was first made available for jailbroken iPhones and iPads through package managers such as Cydia, Sileo, and Zebra.

Interestingly, Hyperixa has also developed a non-jailbroken (jailbroken) version of the IPSW app for iPhone and iPad, which is perhaps more important since those who are not yet jailbroken and waiting to pounce on a jailbroken firmware are most likely tracking signature statuses iPhone and iPad firmware is more strict than those who already feel exceptionally comfortable on jailbreak firmware.

IPSW makes it easy to see if the firmware is being signed by Apple’s signing servers, indicating whether it can be easily downgraded, restored, or upgraded, depending on your device’s current firmware version and the signing situation associated with your setup. The app’s user interface is very similar to the dedicated IPSW.me website, which we often advocate in our posts about unsigned firmware.

The Hyperixa IPSW app is apparently not available for download through the App Store, but the. ipa can be downloaded on both jailbroken and non-jailbroken iPhones or iPads using AltStore and AltServer or Sideloady, whichever you prefer more.

The downloaded version of the app works exactly the same as the version that can be installed on a jailbroken device using the package manager app. It provides all the same features such as:

  • See what firmware is signed for any iPhone or iPad device.
  • View which firmware is signed for the device you are currently using.
  • Filter between iPhone and iPad device types in the device menu
  • Save certain platforms as favorites for closer monitoring.
  • View OTA and Beta Firmware Signing Statuses
  • And more…
  • While a cracked version of IPSW is available in the Hyperixa repository via the package manager app, those who are not cracked can go to a dedicated Hyperixa webpage to download the file. ipa for side loading.

Do you plan to use IPSW on a jailbroken or non-jailbroken iPhone or iPad? We would like to know about it in the comments section below.
