Item Durability in Diablo 4 and How to Repair Them (Blacksmith’s Guide)

Are you wondering what is item durability in Diablo 4 and how to fix broken items? Then you are in the right place as this guide is all you need. If you’ve played earlier games in the franchise like Diablo 2 Resurrected, you probably know what item durability is. Since this can be confusing for many players, we have often seen this question come up. If you’re concerned about item durability and want to understand these game mechanics, we encourage you to keep reading this guide as we’ll explain it all below.

What is item durability in Diablo 4?

When your character dies in Diablo 4, your equipment items lose 10% durability. Once the durability reaches 0, the item will be considered broken and you won’t be able to use it unless you fix it. Of course, you can save items to get other materials. However, the item simply remains in your inventory. Until you go and fix it, you’ll just block your own inventory space.

Currently, the items you collect seem to have a starting durability of 100. However, this will probably be changed and updated soon, otherwise there will be no difference between rare equipment and regular equipment. Keep in mind that even rare items will lose their durability if you die too often in Diablo 4.

How to fix broken items in Diablo IV

Now that you know that broken items cannot be used, you would like to know how to fix them. Once you unlock the first blacksmith, just walk up to the blacksmith and chat with him. From the menu that appears, you can select the Repair option next to the Rescue menu and then select the item you want to repair. Of course, a certain amount of gold will be required depending on the item. However, it is certainly worth it if the item is rare. After you repair an item, you can use it again.
