Striking Distance Studios has unveiled the traditional release trailer for The Callisto Protocol.
The Callisto Protocol takes place on Callisto, the dead moon of Jupiter, in the year 2302. Players will have to survive the horrors of the Dark Iron Prison alongside prisoner Jacob Lee and uncover the dark secrets of the United Jupiter Company after a mysterious plague has thrown Callisto into chaos.
Scheduled for release December 2 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and PC, Striking Distance Studios’ first original creation features a five-star cast with Transformers star Josh Duhamel as Jacob Lee, as well as Star boys Karen Fukuhara as Dani Nakamura and Sam Witwer as Leon Ferris.
Japanese version of The Callisto Protocol canceled
The ultra-violent and ultra-realistic content of the Dead Space successor forced CERO, the Japanese equivalent of PEGI in Europe and the ESRB in North America, to not support the Callisto Protocol in the Land of the Rising Sun:
It has been decided that we will no longer be able to provide you with the experience you need. We hope that all Japanese will understand. If you have already pre-ordered, we will refund your money.
A sequel to The Callisto Protocol is in the works
In an interview with Inverse, the CEO of Striking Distance Studios, a subsidiary of Korean publisher Krafton, Glenn Schofield spoke about his desire to develop a sequel to The Callisto Protocol and no longer wants to engage in crunch culture:
I still want to keep making a sequel. Even after finishing the game, I’m already thinking about what will happen next. We have a small team and we were enthusiastic throughout development, but in the end I made a mistake and we worked harder than we should have. This one eluded us. The social media response has been instructive and I hope it serves as a catalyst for change. I can tell you this, I’m going to make sure this doesn’t happen on our next project or any future project. I am responsible for this problem.
