Once upon a time, iOS developer Lars Fröder, better known in the jailbreak community as @opa334 on Twitter, released a revolutionary app called TrollStore.
Based on a serious CoreTrust bug originally discovered by security researcher Linus Henze, TrollStore allows you to permanently sign files. ipa on the host device, effectively allowing users to install apps outside of the App Store and without the seven-day limit associated with signing downloaded non-published apps. applications through AltStore, Sideloady and even Xcode.
The CoreTrust bug mentioned above works on iOS and iPadOS 14.0-15.4.1 and also seems to work on iOS and iPadOS 15.5 Beta 1-4 and iOS and iPadOS 15.6 Beta 1-5.
The CoreTrust bug doesn’t work on iOS and iPadOS 15.5 (RC or GA), iOS and iPadOS 15.6 (RC or GA) or any newer firmware because Apple has fixed it.
More recently, we’ve seen growing dissatisfaction with @opa334 with the community as it continually asks the tedious question of when iOS and iPadOS 16 will be supported, and given the sheer number of people asking this question, despite how many times we’ve noted compatibility in our post and as often as @opa334 himself states this on Twitter, it seemed like an important time to post this public announcement:
TrollStore does not and will never support iOS and iPadOS 15.5 (release candidate or public release), iOS and iPadOS 15.6 (release candidate or public release), or any firmware newer than iOS and iPadOS 15.6 beta 5. This includes iOS and iPadOS 16..
Here is the source of this information, for those who are interested:
Since Apple has effectively fixed the CoreTrust bug that made TrollStore possible, this means that its permanent signature capabilities cannot work on newer firmware. And that will never change because this bug no longer exists in the world after iOS and iPadOS 15.6 beta 5.
Think of it this way: Odyssey Team’s Taurine jailbreak only supports iOS and iPadOS 14.0-14.3. It will never support iOS and iPadOS 14.4 or later as the exploit used to jailbreak was patched in iOS and iPadOS 14.4 and later. The same logic applies, even though TrollStore is not a jailbreak.
So please don’t scold @opa334 to add new firmware support to TrollStore. It’s impossible, otherwise it would have already been done. Just enjoy what’s on the firmware you’re already using, or if you can’t use it, just download apps from AltStore.
