Apple is releasing the first public beta versions of its new OS. iOS 16, iPadOS 16, tvOS 16, macOS Ventura, and watchOS 9 available.

In a few months, Apple will officially offer new major versions of various operating systems. However, you can test iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, macOS Ventura, and tvOS 16 right now. The Cupertino-based company has just published the first public betas. To do this, you will need an account in the Apple Beta Program and follow the instructions.

However, be aware that these versions may still contain bugs. Also remember to back up your data before installing these versions. You will also have the option to remove your device from the beta program and revert to an older OS version.

Among the new features introduced in iOS 16 is an even more customizable lock screen. Notifications and concentration mode have also been redesigned. Face ID finally works in landscape mode, and you no longer need your Apple Watch to use the Fitness app. You also have the option to edit a message after it has been sent to Messages and report spam. The “Pay Later”feature appears in “Wallet”, and in “Mail”you can schedule an email to be sent. Many other new features will come later.

Multitasking is even better in iPadOS 16, with more control over window size, for example. However, some features are limited to the iPad with the M1 chip. External displays are supported, as well as Google Drive-style document sharing.

Multitasking is also at the center of the new macOS Ventura features. The Stage Manager tool allows you to group windows on the side of the screen and arrange them by application. There’s an option to unsend in Mail, as well as the ability to share tab groups in Safari. A new security feature called passkeys uses Face ID and Touch ID for authentication. You can also use your iPhone as a webcam for your Mac.

With watchOS 9, Apple has greatly improved fitness features. You’ll have access to the distance and time intervals of your workouts, the ability to view your heart rate zones during exercise and sleep, and Apple promises better tracking of the latter.

There are fewer updates on tvOS 16 than on other devices. Among the most important new features is the introduction of support for the Matter home automation standard. Like iOS 16, tvOS will support the Nintendo Joy-Con and Switch Pro controllers.

Apple is also ending support for some devices with this year’s updates. For example, to use iOS 16, you need an iPhone 8 or later.
