What secrets does the Pixel Watch hold inside? iFixit, Google’s newest repair partner, has taken apart Google’s first- ever private-brand smartwatch to see exactly how it was put together. Like us, iFixit left with a strong “first generation”vibe.
It took iFixit a long time in the four-minute video to call Google’s internal structure “ugly”. Opening up the front, iFixit’s Sam Goldhart said, “It’s obvious we’re in Android land. the feedback buzzer was “ugly”. Apple’s “draw the back of the fence “design philosophy means that even the innards of Apple products look good, typically with color-matched love-labeled components. Google, especially in the first generation, is not yet.
iFixit didn’t give the Pixel Watch a repair score, but on the positive side of the repair, iFixit was happy to see that the rear glass came off the same way as the front glass, and it wasn’t connected to any of the sensors. If you somehow crack the backplate, you won’t have to put in much effort to replace it. Goldheart was also impressed with Google’s groundbreaking new back panel adhesive, which came off as one continuous, non-marking piece. The bad news is that none of the buttons or crown are replaceable.
