The veterans of CD Projekt RED are working on a dark fantasy AAA RPG powered by Unreal Engine 5.
Following his departure from CD Projekt RED due to unsubstantiated allegations of bullying after months of internal investigation, Game Director Konrad Tomashkevich (The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077) decided to bring together Art Director Bartlomie Havel (The Witcher 3), Screenwriter Yakub Shamalek (The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Thronebreaker), design director Daniel Sadowski (The Witcher), animation director Tamara Zawada (The Witcher 3), CFO Michal Borika and manager Robert Murzinowski will open the Rebel Wolves studio in Warsaw, Poland to to develop a AAA dark fantasy RPG with Unreal Engine 5 for consoles and PC.
- Konrad Tomaszkiewicz: “For all of us here at Rebel Wolves, video games have always been something we were destined to do, something ingrained in our DNA. Personally, I am very happy to have teamed up with friends who share this passion. We are developing a video game that we would like to play the way games should be made. We want to develop the CRPG genre by creating unforgettable stories and evoking deep emotions, working as a close-knit team united by a common goal and ambition.”
- Jakub Shamalek: “Together, we envision Rebel Wolves as a place where experienced game developers can rekindle their passion, where they can focus on their craft and pour out their love for an amazing and ambitious game. We want it to remain small and nimble, a place where people know each other and help each other. To create truly exceptional games, we don’t follow trends or numbers. Our goal is clearly defined: to create memorable games, tell moving stories and evoke inner emotions. It’s ambitious, it’s true – and I’m happy about it. Art needs ambition. I don’t want to make another game. I want to work on games that people will remember.”
Ambition Rebel Wolves
As for Rebel Wolves, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz believes that independence is the best way to fulfill your dreams and turn the industry upside down: “The studio has a simple philosophy; team comes first. It wants to stay small and flexible as a place where experienced game developers can rekindle their passion. To make great games, you need to bring talented, driven people together and give them room to grow, experiment, and be creative.
All major studios need experienced developers, it’s a very competitive environment. Therefore, we are very happy and proud that we have already managed to hire the best artists, programmers and designers in the industry. We can’t compete with the big studios on size or visibility, but we can offer something just as enticing: an environment where developers can think big, realize their dreams, and take ownership of their work. Of course, there are still many challenges ahead of us, but we are confident that with the already assembled team of talented veterans, nothing will stop us.“
