In a post on /r/reddit, Reddit announced that it has begun rolling out a feature that will allow users to mute certain communities that contain content they don’t want to see.
If you mute a subreddit using this feature, posts from that subreddit won’t appear in your notifications, home feed recommendations, or the Popular Reddit feed with content that has received the most votes from various communities.
Later, Reddit plans to apply muting to other places, such as “Everyone”and “Discover”. However, disabling a community will not prevent you from visiting or posting it.
This feature is a solution to this problem and may make it more likely that some users will check out a popular channel.
You can block up to 1000 communities and change your muted list at any time in settings.
Unfortunately, this new mute feature is only available on the Reddit iOS and Android apps for now. This isn’t the first time Reddit has rolled out new features for mobile devices. This has become quite common in recent years. However, Reddit has made it especially clear this time around that the new mute feature is coming to the desktop and the web.
The post announcing the mute feature directs users to follow the Reddit changelog feed for updates on the rollout to other platforms.
