In February of this year, Xiaomi announced MIUI 12.5 Global and then MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Update. MIUI 12.5 was scheduled for the second quarter of 2021, and the MIUI 12.5 extended update was scheduled for the third quarter of 2021, which will bring many features such as a focused algorithm, optimized memory, liquid storage, smart balance, and more. However, the best thing about the update is probably the ability for users to uninstall most system apps. We also previously heard that a three-year-old device like the Poco F1 will also receive the MIUI 12.5 update. This somewhat made everyone feel that Xiaomi is now focusing heavily on software support. However, it appears that the company is having difficulty updating its devices.
Xiaomi has announced the list of devices that will not receive the MIUI 12.5 Enhanced update. While the list is small, phones from the Redmi Note 7, Redmi 7 and 7A lineup, along with the Redmi Y3, are the only phones that won’t receive the MIUI 12.5 Enhanced update. According to a FoneArena report, Xiaomi announced the same on Mi Fans Home, its official Telegram channel. The following Redmi phones will not receive the update.
- Redmi Note 7 Pro
- Redmi Note 7S
- Redmi Note 7
- Redmi 7
- Redmi Y3
- Redmi 7A
These phones were all released in 2019 and are only two years old and Xiaomi left them with outdated software. Since these phones are not getting the update, there seems to be very little chance of getting MIUI 13. It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi fans defend this move of not updating devices by advocating a custom ROM.
Xiaomi has yet to announce its MIUI 13 rollout plan, and once the company announces it in the next few months, we’ll be able to see how many more Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco phones have been left out. For now, it looks like Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro users, two very popular phones, will have to stick with what they have or switch to a custom ROM.
