Remedy Entertainment modernizes its visual identity and changes the logo

New logo and new visual style for the Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment.

Founded in 1995, Remedy Entertainment hasn’t changed or updated its logo since 1999, when a dispute with LucasArts prompted the studio founded by Samuli Sivähuoko, Markus Mäki, Sami Nopanen, John Kavaleff and Sami Vanhatalo to “speed up”the process of finding a visual identity better suited to their purposes and culminating in the iconic “R”surrounding the ball. The bullet represented the Max Payne era, but in later years, as Remedy released Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Control, the old logo was no longer seen as an adequate representation of the work and ambitions of the Tencent-affiliated company. That’s why over the past few years, when Remedy expanded to Sweden and worked on multiple IPs at once,

It’s time to revisit our studio’s visual identity to bring in more consistency, showcase our evolution over the years, and better express our vision for today’s Remedy.

We haven’t updated our logo in over 20 years. That is, until now.

Thomas Puha, director of communications for Remedy Entertainment, said:

Creating a new logo and modernized visual identity for Remedy was an emotional journey, like everything in art. If you’ve been following Remedy for a long time, you probably know how vital art direction is to us. Not only for our games, but also for our studio. Not to mention our sweatshirts (…) It’s time to update and redefine our visual identity to be more consistent, show our evolution over the years, and better express our vision for today’s Remedy. This logo means a lot to us, but we know it means a lot to you too. As with the games we make at Remedy, we approached this process with great care, attention and passion. We want to create worlds, memorable stories and characters that you can discover in our games. We wanted our new logo to reflect our ongoing evolution and our desire to continue making exciting games with the best elements. However, this is still the same Remedy, where bold creativity flourishes. We hope you enjoy this new look.

Alan Wake 2 is still aiming for a 2022 release

Although Remedy Entertainment stated in its Q4 2022 financial report that development on Alan Wake 2 is nearly complete and that the game is “playable from start to finish”, the Finnish studio has confirmed this release period:

Our future is incredibly exciting. Despite nearly three decades in the video game industry, we feel like we’re just getting started. You can expect Alan Wake 2 to release later this year, as well as several high-quality Remedy games in the coming years.
