There were plenty of cool new announcements last night at State of Play, but perhaps the most exciting of them all was Resident Evil 4 for PS5. The new game is a complete remake of the cult game from 2004 and will be available on PlayStation 5 in 2023.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Edwin Edso (Promotion Producer, Capcom) explains that the game will not only get all sorts of modern technical improvements, but will also rethink the game’s storyline. Resident Evil 4 will feature modern graphics and updated controls to better match the expected standard of gaming in 2023.
The trailer shows off a rather stunning improvement over the original, with breathtaking visuals as well as an updated color palette.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Coming to PS5 March 24, 2023
The story summary released by Capcom looks much like the original, where Leon S. Kennedy is sent to a secluded European village to find the kidnapped daughter of a US president.
The original 2005 title was instrumental in revolutionizing modern third-person shooters by introducing mechanics that have become staples of the genre, such as the over-the-shoulder camera. Many consider Resident Evil 4 the pinnacle of the franchise and a true modern classic.
Given Capcom’s continued success with Resident Evil remakes, it was only a matter of time before the RE4 Remake was released. The pressure on developers will be enormous to create a title comparable to the iconic original, which is a challenge for any studio.
However, Capcom has shown exceptional prowess when it comes to remakes, as Resident Evil remakes are some of the best. It will be interesting to see what kind of control updates and visual changes the developers have in store when the game releases in March 2023.
