Rogue Legacy 2 officially releases on April 28, and the original game is free to play.
Nearly two years after the official announcement of Rogue Legacy 2, Cella Door Games has just announced that the sequel will soon exit the Early Access phase it has been in until now. The game will be officially available on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S starting April 28.

Cellar Door changed the art style somewhat, creating 3D characters moving against a hand-drawn background. There are also new classes, new weapons and new abilities, and the studio has updated the proposed environment with new generation biomes. There is also a inheritance system that provides heroes with constant new abilities and accessibility features, thought and designed to help “players progress even if they get stuck,”according to a press release.
Rogue Legacy 2 has been in development for almost four years now, and this sequel will be released about nine years after the first game was released. Rogue Legacy paved the way for many successful indie and non-indie roguelikes such as Hades.
What set Rogue Legacy apart from other games like Spelunky or FTL: Faster Than Light was the system that allowed players to continue their adventure by choosing their previous character’s legacy. Each heir had his own characteristics.
