Samsung’s Galaxy S series has established itself as the camera champion in its premium smartphone lineup for years, making times hard for the Apple iPhone and other Chinese rivals. Now, however, the company plans to set the same benchmark for its foldable phones. The tech firm may soon borrow premium cameras from the Galaxy S22, S22+ and use them in the Galaxy Z Fold line. This will likely solve one of the biggest folding series problems on the market. However, it remains to be seen how Samsung integrates it into a thinner-than-usual foldable form factor.
According to a new Galaxy Club report, Samsung may fit the same telephoto lenses found in the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ in its alleged Galaxy Z Fold 4. For those who don’t know, the telephoto specification includes a new 1/3.94-inch sensor with 10 megapixels and 69mm focal length. The sensor offers 3x optical zoom, which is slightly more than the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s 2x zoom.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 may get a Galaxy S22 front camera
But that’s not all. The front-facing cameras in the unannounced Galaxy Z Fold 4 could get the same sensor found in the Galaxy S22 series. While it boasts a 10-megapixel sensor, the same as the Z Fold 3, the quality of portrait shots and selfies in general could improve.
However, Samsung fans can only hope that the remaining 50MP main sensor and 12MP ultra-wide sensors are also borrowed from the Galaxy S22, S22+ models and used in the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, with upgraded cameras one should also expect a jump in overall phone cost.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 Price
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is currently available for purchase on the website for $1,979 (GST included). On third-party websites like Flipkart and Amazon, it’s available for the same price for the 256GB model, while the 512GB variant can be purchased for $2,085. In terms of camera specifications, there are three 12-megapixel cameras (main, ultra-wide and telephoto) with apertures of f/1.8, f/2.2 and f/2.4. As mentioned above, there is also a 10-megapixel main camera.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 expected launch date
While this was for the cameras, previous leaks have pointed to some other details as well. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is said to feature a built-in S Pen and could launch this August. In case you’re wondering, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 already supports Samsung’s smart stylus. However, there is no special slot for it.
