The Samsung Galaxy S22 series was launched earlier this year in the global market as well as in India. The series consists of three devices: Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra. One of the highlights of the trio was the camera as they can take great photos and even videos. These phones come with a lot of new tools and customization options inside the camera, making for a great camera experience overall.
Now, in order to give the same experience to older Samsung Galaxy devices, Samsung has announced that it is releasing a new update for the latest generation devices that adds many new camera features to older models. These updates are currently being rolled out in Korea, and global models are also expected to receive the OTA update in the coming weeks. Let’s take a look at all the features and improvements the update brings along with the supported devices.
Improvement of night portraits
Night shooting on smartphones has always been a challenge, but over the past few years we have seen a significant improvement in terms of night shots. Some of the older Samsung Galaxy devices will receive support for improved night photography with a telephoto lens in portrait mode. This allows users to take vivid portraits even in the dark.
Auto crop function
On the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series, the auto framing feature in movie mode has been improved. This feature offers auto zoom in/out and tracking, recognizing the position of up to 10 people at a distance of up to 5m. This feature will now be added to the Galaxy S21.
Video call enhancement
Samsung is adding new video call app extension support for older Galaxy devices to provide better video call experience. After the update, you will be able to test these features on apps such as BlueJeans, Duo, Google Meet, KakaoTalk, Knox Meeting, Messenger (Meta), Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, Webex Meetings, and Zoom. Auto-framing is also available for video calls on the Galaxy S21, Z Fold3, Z Flip3, S21 FE, Z Fold2, and Z Flip 5G/LTE.
Improved camera quality for third party apps

If you use any third-party camera apps from the Google Play Store, Samsung will add advanced handling of its camera even to other apps like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat. This is best for HDR (High Dynamic Range) recording in bright and even dark places.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 improvements
The foldable Galaxy Z Fold 3 has received a few additional improvements. First, the device will receive the Expert Raw app, which can be downloaded from the Galaxy Store. This app is a professional camera app and the device will be able to use all app settings. Finally, the device gets Pro mode support for the telephoto lens, allowing you to record distant subjects.
