Samsung unveils its C-Lab projects to be showcased at CES 2022

Samsung unveils flagship designs from its C-Lab, including the ZamStar app duo and the ZamString guitar.

As it does every year this time of year, Samsung is presenting plans for its C-Lab incubator at CES 2022 to gauge public interest in promoting or not promoting the most promising ideas. The star of this year is undoubtedly ZamStar, a guitar and app duo created to make collaboration and learning easier. Other notable projects include an AI-based solution to help children develop good habits with their smartphones and a mobile device to detect strabismus in newborns.

So ZamStar consists of an app and a guitar called ZamString. The idea is this: you can play notes on the guitar, add effects, and then sync it all with other musicians around the world. This is in response to a musical collaboration that has surfaced on TikTok since the Covid-19 pandemic, with the idea of making syncing between musicians as easy as possible. In addition, the ZamString guitar has a fretboard that lights up depending on the song you’re playing, making it easy for you to view or place your fingers. This concept is not new, but it may be the first time that learning and collaboration aspects have been combined in a project.

Pi l oto, meanwhile, is what Samsung calls “an AI solution that helps kids develop good habits with their smartphones.”The goal is to teach children “self-regulation techniques”on smart devices so they can make good choices. Finally, Innovision is a “mobile daily monitoring system for identifying possible symptoms of strabismus and tracking the development of infants’ visual abilities.”Sounds pretty smart, as babies naturally look at their mobile cradle.

In addition to projects led by its own incubators, Samsung C-Lab Outside also supports nine startups, including an AI-based biometric animal recognition solution called Petnow. All of these projects will be explored in more detail at their own booth at CES 2022. At the time of writing, Samsung seems to have always planned to be there. The South Korean giant has not (yet?) followed Google, Lenovo, Intel, Amazon, Meta, T-Mobile and others who canceled their visit due to the pandemic.
