Now that Mi flagships have taken their original brand name, Xiaomi phones aren’t going anywhere. The start of the year for the company will be the Xiaomi 11i, which will replace the Mi 10i (the review was released around the same time last year. And while the USP Mi 10i included 5G support and a 108MP camera, its successor is about to do something radically different. As the teasers show, Xiaomi 11i is confirmed to support 120W fast charging, which Xiaomi demonstrated will charge the phone up to 100% in just 15 minutes. Now we have confirmation of the brains inside the upcoming smartphone – Xiaomi 11i will be powered by the new MediaTek Dimensity 920.
“Xiaomi 11i will be the first or one of the first to use the MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC,” Raghu Reddy, Chief Business Officer of Xiaomi India, told Mysmartprice ahead of the teasers being launched today.
Dimensity 920 was announced back in August and is used for devices released in China. Mi 11i will be one of the first to bring the 5G chip. Xiaomi has been working with MediaTek to develop the Dimensity 920 for users since its launch in August, and the result is the Mi 11i.
While Raghu has refrained from revealing more interesting details about the charging technology and other features of the phone, we got a good idea of what the Dimensity 920 has to offer from Anku Jain, Managing Director of MediaTek India.
MediaTek Dimensity 920: what’s on offer?
Dimensity 920 will be the mid-range SoC to look out for in the first half of 2022. It features comprehensive upgrades over the previous Dimensity 800 series, delivering a 15% performance improvement and energy efficiency improvements through a 6nm manufacturing process. The Dimensity 920 also includes support for adaptive refresh rate displays, as well as native HDR image processing through a 4K hardware video capture engine. Phones powered by the Dimensity 920 can offer cameras with up to 108MP sensors and can be equipped with flagship components like UFS 3.1 storage, LPDDR5 RAM, and 120Hz displays.
To improve performance, the Dimensity 920 is equipped with high performance 2.5GHz Cortex-A78 cores as well as energy efficient 2GHz Cortex-A55 cores arranged in a 4+4 layout. Clock speeds are limited to much lower than those for which they are intended, and perhaps this may have been done to keep thermals at bay. It also features a quad-core ARM Mali G68 MP4 GPU which MediaTek claims is powerful enough to handle all the AAA games coming out this year.
Dimensity 920 is also a 5G SoC. It supports 5G networks on both SIMs in both offline and offline modes. There is also support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
Xiaomi 11i series: what do we know so far?
How many of them will use Xiaomi 11i? As far as we know, it comes with a 120Hz AMOLED display with a maximum brightness of 1200 nits. and, if the rumors are true, then also a 108 MP camera. But what most of us are looking forward to is the 120W fast charging on the Xiaomi 11i series.
The company does not reveal details about what has been done in developing the charging technology, the associated risks and long-term benefits, but we do know that the Xiaomi 11i series will be equipped with a 4500mAh battery that can be charged in just 15 minutes. Charging technology itself is not new. It has been there in previous Xiaomi global flagship phones such as the Xiaomi 11T Pro.
Notably, the Xiaomi 11i series will include Xiaomi 11i and Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge based on the recently launched Redmi Note 11 series in China. Redmi Note 11 Pro launches as Xiaomi 11i while Redmi Note 11 Pro+ launches as Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge. Specifications and design will most likely remain the same. Are you excited about this launch?
