Signal, in turn, is launched in Stories

Signal, in turn, is launched in Stories. Will there be success? Will it attract new users?

Like Instagram, Facebook and many others, Signal is jumping on the Stories bandwagon. This week, the privacy-focused instant messaging app began beta testing its ephemeral Stories feature. Users can share videos, images and text messages with their friends. Stories disappear after 24 hours.

Like everything else on the platform, Stories Signal is fully encrypted. Users can choose with whom to share them. As with groups and custom friends lists, you can share the story with all of your connections (your contacts and anyone you’ve ever chatted with one-on-one). If you post a story in a group, members of that group can react, reply, and share the story.

For now, Stories will only be seen by other beta testers. If you don’t want to see stories in Signal, you can turn them off in your settings. This, however, will logically prevent you from posting Stories.

Will there be success? Will it attract new users?

Time will tell if Stories can help Signal get their users to spend more time on the app and bring in new users. Instagram has copied one of Snapchat’s most used features in its version of Stories. Today, they are at the center of the Instagram experience. Not all platforms that tested Stories decided to continue. In 2021, Twitter and LinkedIn ended their functionality after less than a year of operation.
