God Of War Ragnarok Skill System: How Does It Work? (explanation)

Throughout the God of War series, Kratos is already a real killing machine. But when he encounters Norse gods like Odin, Thor and Freya, he might need an upgrade. Just like in God of War (2018), there are plenty of skills you can unlock for Kratos and your weapons. Having said that, GOW Ragnarok has Skill Labors for their skill system. So how does it work? Check out our guide that explains how the skill system works in God of War Ragnarok.

How the skill system works in God of War Ragnarok

Unlike the previous GOW, you don’t have to grind XP to upgrade and upgrade “every skill”in the skill tree. While you need to spend the XP you earn to unlock various skills, you need to level up Skill Labors to upgrade your weapons. As you level up your weapon, you unlock more skills and abilities for your weapon. Speaking of skills, Kratos has three different skill trees. And they are the following:

  • Technique
  • distant battle
  • close combat

You need to reach level 6 to unlock all the skills for your weapons in GOW Ragnarok.

What is Skill Labor in GOW Ragnarok

After unlocking a skill for a weapon, you need to use that skill as much as possible. This grinding is called Skill Labor in God of War Ragnarok. Instead of spending XP on each skill, you need to use your weapon’s unlocked skills to upgrade it. As the name suggests, it revolves around using and honing an unlocked skill to advance in its level.

There are three levels of mastery and they are as follows:

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold

Please note that you need to grind in order to level up skill trees. In addition, these skills will differ for different types of weapons. Like Kratos, Atreus and his comrades have a different skill tree.

That’s all for how the skill system works in God of War Ragnarok.
