The Oppo Find N has been officially confirmed as the company’s upcoming foldable smartphone. As announced in an open letter by the company’s current chief product officer and former head of OnePlus, Pete Lau, the launch of the Oppo Find N has also been confirmed on December 15th. The latter day will be the second day of the company’s annual event called Oppo Inno Day 2021. Oppo also posted a tweet revealing what the smartphone looks like, giving us a clear idea of what to expect.
In his open letter, Lau says: “In the past, the evolution of smartphones has been centered on the display panel, first combining a small display with a large keyboard, and then evolving into modern full-screen smartphones. But in an era when everyone has phones with similar configurations, the use of smartphones has ceased. If we can find a way to overcome the bottleneck of smartphone displays, we can once again revolutionize efficiency and interactivity.”
“Already in April 2018, the first generation of the Find N prototype was born internally. While several other brands have already introduced foldable devices to the market, obstacles such as utility, durability and usability still prevent foldable devices from becoming a more practical everyday stimulus for most people,” he said.
The Oppo Find N is rumored to be likely to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. It may have an 8-inch LTPO display inside that folds inward in a similar mechanism to the Samsung Galaxy Fold series of smartphones. The folded image shared by Lau also shows the camera bump on the back of the smartphone’s outer shell. More details are yet to be revealed, including software improvements that Oppo may have made to the smartphone to ensure app continuity.
Oppo Inno Day 2021 will also showcase the company’s first proprietary neural processing unit (NPU), as well as a new generation of augmented reality smart glasses. Oppo will also showcase the smartphone’s retractable camera mechanism, as well as its vision and concept of “digital people”.
