Carbon-free aluminum Apple iPhones coming soon?

The next Apple iPhone could use carbon-free aluminum, since the production of this material no longer results in greenhouse gas emissions.

Apple has emphasized its commitment to sustainability and sustainability over the years, and not just in these day-to-day operations. This is also reflected in the way products are designed and manufactured, packaging design, and more. Today, the Cupertino-based company announces its intention to offer iPhones that can be made using the world’s first “carbon-free”aluminum.

Apple’s next iPhones may use carbon-free aluminum

The problem with many initiatives that claim to be “green”, “green”and “green”is that in the end they are just proof of concept. The question always arises as to whether they can be easily and cheaply scaled up to handle enough volume to make a real impact. In the case we are interested in today, this may be the case, as Apple will buy the material from ELYSIS, which has developed a fusion process that produces oxygen rather than any greenhouse gas such as carbon dioxide.

The production of the material no longer generates greenhouse gases.

According to Vincent Christa, CEO of ELYSIS, “This is the first time that aluminum has been produced in this purity without any greenhouse gas emissions and on an industrial scale. The sale to Apple confirms market interest in aluminum produced using our innovative carbon-free smelting technology. Today’s announcement proves that ELYSIS, a joint venture between Alcoa and Rio Tinto, has been able to turn a simple idea into reality.”

Most Apple products today use 100% recycled aluminum, such as the iPad, MacBook, and Apple Watch. According to a press release from the Cupertino-based company, the company may use this material as soon as the next iPhone SE is announced earlier this month.
