The next Apple iMac Pro could have a 12-core processor thanks to a chip based on Apple’s Silicon M1 Max chip.
If the rumors are true, Apple will have a new 27-inch iMac in its boxes that could be formalized in the coming months, but it won’t be a simple iMac, but an iMac Pro. Today, according to the leaked twitter @Dylandkt, we know a number of additional details regarding this machine, or rather the processor that will be on board.

According to the tweet in question, the leak claims that this computer could use a chip that goes beyond the M1 Max and could have at least 12 cores. For those who don’t know, the basic Apple Silicon M1 chip has 7 or 8 cores, while the slightly higher-end M1 Pro chip has 8 to 10. The M1 Max chip, on the other hand, has 10, but also has more memory and graphics processor with more cores than the Pro.

This means that this iMac Pro could use a variant of the M1 Max chip with even more cores, which would logically make it an even more powerful machine. This information is in line with a report we received in November 2021 that announced that the next Mac Pro could also come with an M1 Max-based chip rather than the M2, which is also due to debut this year.
In any case, it will be interesting to see how much performance gains can be achieved with the new iMac Pro and Mac Pro, two new generations rumored to debut next fall. In other words, if you need to change your Mac, you’re better off waiting until then, if possible, of course.
