Sony Interactive Entertainment: PS5 sales approaching 20 million

Record-breaking year for Sony Interactive Entertainment despite no PS5.

Still struggling due to massive semiconductor shortages, the Sony PS5 is still lagging behind the PS4 (19.2 million consoles sold worldwide as of March 31, 2022, including 11.5 million during the fiscal year), compared to 22.5 million consoles sold worldwide during the same period). Not discouraged, although only two million players were able to purchase the new home console between January and March 2022, Sony estimates that it will be able to sell 18 million PS5s by the end of March 2023 to keep from catching up with the PS4, sales numbers can only improve in over the next few months.

As in February last year, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to have the best year in its history with a turnover of 19.8 billion euros and an operating income of 2.5 billion euros. In the next financial year, SIE expects a strong increase in turnover (26.5 billion euros), but a decrease in operating profit (2.2 billion euros) following the growth in sales of consoles and peripherals. It should be noted that this is again Sony Group Corporation’s most productive activity, although Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Electronics earned 1.5 billion euros and 16.9 billion euros, respectively.
