Sony PlayStation Won’t Go to Gamescom 2022, Company Confirms

In a statement released to gameswirtschaft, PlayStation has confirmed that it will not be attending this year’s Gamescom, scheduled to run from August 24 to 28. The platform owner and publisher was the last to confirm their absence from the event after Nintendo, Activision. and Take-Two Interactive.

The PlayStation has usually been a regular at Gamescom, but their absence from events like Gamescom and E3 seems to have all but reinforced the company’s move away from yearly trade shows and video game expos. With the exception of the Jeff Keighley Summer Game Festival and The Game Awards, PlayStation has decided to reserve new announcements and updates for State of Play and other similar events.

Xbox was at last year’s Gamescom and put on quite a show with lots of great in-house announcements along with third-party demos.

PlayStation won’t be featured at Gamescom 2022

Earlier this month, PlayStation hosted a State of Play event dedicated to upcoming PS VR2 games, but there are rumors of another State of Play scheduled for the end of June. There are a number of highly anticipated first-person games that fans would love to hear more about, including God of War Ragnarok from Santa Monica Studios.

While SIE is postponing it, it remains to be seen if Xbox decides to show up at Gamescom 2022 as the platform owner and publisher have been quite active throughout the summer. Xbox along with Bethesda attended this year’s Summer Game Fest with Bethesda – and there are a number of great games ready for more announcements and trailers.

Upcoming titles from Xbox like Ninja Theory’s Hellblade II are top candidates for revealing or announcing new gameplay, but the publisher doesn’t seem ready to reveal more at this time. This summer has been quite a busy one for game fans so far, and there are many more announcements and trailers to come.
