Apple has reportedly delayed the development of its own wireless chip. Will we ever see them in the brand’s products?
According to new information from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has “paused development “of its own Wi-Fi chip, which should replace the Broadcom chip in future devices. The often very well-informed expert on the Apple brand ecosystem explains in a Medium post that he bases his estimate on his latest survey of semiconductor foundries and other equipment, packaging and test vendors.
Apple reportedly delayed development of its own wireless chip
If you remember, Bloomberg reported a few weeks ago that the tech giant was working on its own wireless chips, chips that should be integrated into its devices by 2025. The Cupertino-based company hasn’t explicitly commented on the information, but the fact is, it’s not hard to believe; the company has been working on the development and production of its own chips and components for many years in order to depend on third-party companies as little as possible.
Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple has decided to devote most of its resources to the development of the next generation of A and M chips. In this way, it will be able to ensure that the processors for its iPhone, iPad and other MacBooks can reach the market. in production over the next two years. The analyst also explained that it is more risky for the Apple brand to use its own Wi-Fi chips at a time when companies upgrade their devices to Wi-Fi 6E. He elaborates that “Broadcom will be the biggest winner”in this situation, since the iPhone 15 must be compatible with this new Wi-Fi standard, which allows access to the 6GHz band.
Will we ever see them in the brand’s products?
If we really don’t know if Apple will ever use a wireless home chip, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently explained that the tech giant’s ambitions in this area are not abandoned. In Ming-Chi Kuo’s Twitter discussion of his report, Mark Gurman chimed in to say that the Cupertino-based company is still working on the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip. The American journalist clarified that the Apple brand is also working on a chip that combines Bluetooth, cellular data and Wi-Fi in one component, but he does not know that the latter is still in development.
When The Information ran an article last week reporting that Apple was working on a more affordable mixed reality headset, one blog source said the device could only use its own Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chips. and therefore the final public price, as there will be no need to negotiate with a third party supplier.

Apple stopped developing its own Wi-Fi chips; Broadcom is the largest beneficiary of the iPhone 15 upgrade to Wi-Fi 6E and the leading beneficiary of the standard Wi-Fi upgrade to Wi-Fi 6E/7 with higher ASP. https://t.co/XEZ0bVV8A8
