Sega, the game developer and publisher, announced last year that it was working on a Super Game. However, there were few details about the title, as the firm did not reveal any details about the gameplay, theme, or launch timeline. Now the interview seems to have given a few hints on what to expect from the Supergame project. The interview was given by top managers of the gaming company. Although there are still no details, there is enough information to get fans excited.
In an interview with VGC, Sega Executive Vice President Shuji Utsumi said that the “Super Game”project will be a multi-platform version of AAA. It was also added that the title would be large enough to accommodate multiple smaller games.
“SuperGame has several games under development, and while each game will be different, there is no doubt that these will be interactive games that go beyond traditional games,” Utsumi added.
Each game within the Supergame project will meet four criteria
Each game must meet four basic criteria in order to qualify as a title suitable for a “Super Game”. Projects built within the project must support multiple platforms, have a parallel global release schedule, be AAA rated, and offer global multilingual development. Regarding the main Super Game project, Sega General Manager Katsuya Hisai said that the team has about 50 members. Naturally, Sega will look to dramatically increase the number of team members as the project continues to evolve and move to the next stage. “We expect the final number of employees to be in the hundreds,” Hisai said.
Using the Microsoft Azure cloud platform and NFT
However, Sega does not seem to limit its “Supergame”to a simple name. The project is expected to use NFTs and cloud gaming for some of its offerings. The company has already announced its partnership with the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, and it looks like Supergame will be built on that. However, this has not been confirmed at the moment as plans could be delayed if the technology does not meet its standards.
The Supergame project will definitely add to Sega’s already solid and successful projects like Sonic, Phantasy Star and Lost Judgment. The company said last year that it could invest up to 100 billion yen over the next five years to build the Super Game.
