South Park: New Game In Development, THQ Nordic Gets License

Austrian publisher THQ Nordic has announced the development of a new video game adaptation of South Park.

At the end of the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2022, a subsidiary of Embracer Group stated:

We have 43 games in development, 26 of which have yet to be announced AFTER this event.

But then the number “26”was scrawled. And the South Park Digital Studios logo appeared, and South Park’s Randy Marsh yelled “Hot Hot Hot Hot!”on the background.

Then the original statement from THQ Nordic came back, now saying that there are 25 unannounced games instead of 26 because a new game in the South Park universe is officially in development. We don’t know the name of the studio behind this at this time, but THQ Nordic is restoring the license after it was circulated around Acclaim, Microsoft and Ubisoft.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have been working on a new South Park game for a year now.

In August 2021, a Bloomberg report announced the signing of a new $900 million deal between ViacomCBS and the creators of South Park. In a separate note, citing an email from Matt Stone, it states that a new South Park game is already in development at South Park Digital Studios, with Trey Parker and his assistant in charge. It is possible that THQ Nordic was also involved at the time.

The latest South Park games on consoles are The Stick of Truth (2014) and The Fractured but Whole (2017) with Ubisoft and Obsidian Entertainment for the first time (note that it had to be published by THQ before that one went bankrupt and that the project would be taken over by French publisher), and Ubisoft San Francisco – the second. For smartphones, RedLynx has featured South Park: Phone Destroyer, a real-time strategy game.
