Sega partnered with Picturestart to license Space Channel 5 and Comix Zone to theaters.
Written by Barry Battles (Baytown Outcasts: Khor-la-loi, Night Watch, Far Cry 5: Inside Eden’s Gate) and Nir Paniri (Kamikaze Dolls, Extracted, Scarecrow Story), the Space Channel 5 movie will tell the story of a humble fast food worker who is recruited by Ulala, a reporter from the future, to save the world from aliens known as Morolians in a game developed by United Game Artists for the Dreamcast, using the only thing that unites everyone on the planets. namely the love of viral dancing.

Written by Mae Catt (Young Justice, Dragons: Reign of the Nine, Transformers: War for Cybertron trilogy), Comic Book Zone will follow a tormented comic book creator and young heterosexual writer of color who, being sucked into the latest issue of of their popular series must put their differences aside to stop a dangerous supervillain from wreaking havoc. In this context, they humorously explore the ever-evolving art of storytelling itself.
Picturestart to help Sega turn video games into movies
Royce Reeves-Darby and Eric Feig are curating Space Channel 5 and Comix Zone for Picturestart, co-producing Borderlands with Lionsgate and Gearbox/2K Games, and co-producing with Sami Kim Falvey. If Sega can count on Tohru Nakahara to produce two adaptations, Takumi Yoshinaga will be attached to the Space Channel 5 movie team and Kagasei Shimomura will join the Comix Zone movie team.
