Live Activity is a new iPhone feature in iOS 16.1 that helps you stay up to date with what’s happening in real time without even opening the app. You simply view the current data displayed at the bottom of the lock screen or on a dynamic island. This could be sports scores as they become available, arrival/delivery updates, etc.

Other apps will add support for live action on the lock screen and Dynamic Island over time. Apple has provided developers with an official Live Activity API so they can implement this feature in their own apps.

You might not know this, but the Now Playing control in iOS 16 is also a live activity. In fact, you can expand “Now Playing”to fill the entire lock screen by tapping on the little album cover (tap it again to return to the default view).
