Spotify Car Thing can now answer calls and control other apps

Spotify is updating and adding some new features especially for Car Thing.

Just months after Car Thing launched in the United States, Spotify is rolling out a number of new features to its device this week, features that should make this little box a lot more useful. New features include a long-awaited option, perhaps even the most anticipated: the ability to add to a playlist.

Spotify updates and adds several new features

There are several ways to add songs or podcast episodes to your playlist. You can click the tail icon next to a track, or press and hold the button when you’re on a specific song. This can also be done with your voice, you can say something like “Hey Spotify, add [song name] to the queue.”You can also view the queue with a voice command or by pressing and holding a button in the Now Playing view.

Another novelty is the ability to generate a playlist according to a certain genre, mood or activity. You can say “Hey Spotify, play some music on Sunday morning”and the platform will offer you a personalized playlist according to the requested criteria. This feature is available on all platforms that support Hey Spotify.

Special for car thing

Otherwise, we note the introduction of new features for Car Thing, which should be very useful in everyday life. In particular, it becomes possible to see, accept or reject an incoming call. You can also manage other media. You can return to Spotify control by tapping the screen, using preconfigured commands, or by initiating a voice command. Both of these features are currently only available on iOS, but will be coming to Android very soon. Please note that Car Thing updates that require a Spotify Premium subscription are automatically rolled out to iOS users.
