Spotify finally has a home and lock screen widget on iOS 16. Some might say better late than never.
The new version of Spotify now supports widgets from iOS 16, so you can (slightly) control your music from your iPhone or iPad’s lock screen, or show the art of the album you’re listening to right on your home screen.
Spotify is finally bringing a home screen and lock screen widget to iOS 16.
Prior to this update being marked 8.8.26, Spotify offered very limited integration with the iOS system. It’s not to say that it didn’t exist as the Now Playing feature was still there to allow users to easily control playback.
Spotify is pretty late in terms of iOS widget support for the home screen and lock screen. This iOS 16 lock screen customization was certainly one of Apple’s biggest hits last year – and Android has been enjoying it for even longer – and competing music apps like Tidal already offer, for the most part, this functionality, with variations, some widgets. more than others who can, for example, show you discoveries.
Better late than never, some will say
Spotify has a rocky relationship with the Cupertino company; the company has accused the Cupertino-based company of anti-competitive practices and is set to win a lawsuit against the American giant in Europe over in-app purchase fees. But Spotify sometimes plays alongside the Apple brand, offering CarPlay support and the Apple Watch app, for example, so users can listen to their favorite music while exercising without their iPhone.
Setting up the new Spotify widget is very easy. The process is similar to that of any other widget. Please note that there are two widget size options for the home screen: large and small.
