Creator Tony Gilroy dived a little deeper into that structure and how Star Wars will unfold in Andor during an interview with Empire: “The scope of the series is so huge. The directors work in blocks of three episodes, so in the first season we did four blocks of three episodes each. This filming schedule organically led to a different construction of the second season. We thought about it and said to ourselves, “Wow, that would be really fun to go back and use each block to represent a year. With each block, we will get closer to a year.” From a storytelling standpoint, it’s very exciting to be able to work on something where you work on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and then skip a year. Rogue One is more about the event than the actual journey of the characters. It’s pretty amazing to start a series where it’s not what’s important
