After a rather unexpected reveal in 2017, Valve has just confirmed the launch of Steam Deck on February 25, 2022. Starting today, Valve will be sending out the first batch of booking emails to reservation owners.
Valve opened reservations around the same time that the Steam Deck was announced, and those who reserved the deck will receive an order email starting February 5th. Customers will have 3 days (72 hours) from the time they receive the email to make a purchase.
If the customer is unable to complete the purchase within the set time period, the reservation is passed to the next person in line. Valve plans to release the first devices to customers starting February 28 and release new order email packages weekly.
The console is not currently available for booking in India as the launch is currently limited to the US, Canada, EU and UK only.
Steam deck order emails will arrive weekly
Valve has confirmed that they will be sending invites shortly after 10:00 AM PST on February 25th. Customers will only be able to purchase the Steam deck model they originally reserved. The amount of the booking deposit will be included in the final price of the car.
This is great news for gamers as the Steam Deck is one of the most talked about gaming devices in the community. Much of it is cautious optimism mixed with a healthy dose of restraint.
From what we’ve seen so far, it generally looks like the Steam Deck is able to hold its own even when playing massive AAA titles like Devil May Cry 5. Performance doesn’t seem like an issue so far, but then again, we haven’t seen much car in action.
It will be interesting to see if Valve decides to reveal more about the system in a hardware detail, in much the same way that Sony did with the PlayStation 5.
