Valve introduces Steam Dynamic Cloud Sync, an automatic backup and synchronization system between devices.
The Valve Steam platform exists almost exclusively on PC, but with the imminent release of the Steam Deck portable console, gamers will be able to enjoy their favorite games in a whole new way. And they will be able to access most of the titles in their library. Therefore, it is logical that you can easily switch from one device to another. Logically, yes, but not necessarily obvious. Something that Valve just fixed today.
Valve Announces Steam Dynamic Cloud Sync
Indeed, if you want to switch from one device to another in the middle of a game, backups should follow. For example, you are playing on your Steam deck, returning home and want to continue playing on PC. To make things as smooth as possible, Valve just announced a new Steam feature called Dynamic Cloud Sync. As the name suggests, it’s all about allowing users to sync their saves so they can pick up where they left off on any device.
Automatic backup and synchronization system between devices
According to Valve, this feature was launched precisely to anticipate this scenario. Many players will certainly pause their game in the Steam deck without actually exiting the game. On PC, exiting the game without explicitly saving will most often result in a loss of progress. And that’s exactly what Dynamic Cloud Sync wants to fix.
The US company describes this new feature as follows: “With Dynamic Cloud Sync, Steam will automatically send save data on every change to the cloud before the device goes to sleep. Users can then resume their game on any PC, laptop, or other device. Steam will also automatically load all saved data on every change when the user returns to their Steam deck and wakes up the device.”
However, it should be clarified that this feature will not be automatically available for all games. This is really the kind of API that developers should include in their games. In other words, developers must make the decision to integrate it and make the effort to do so.
