Steam offers Mido and Di to download and store for free until May 2

Mido and Di, a charming indie third-person action game, is currently available for free on Steam. In the game, players control Mido, an alien child who is haunted by nightmares of zombie aliens, who is then taught how to kill the zombie aliens by a creature called “Dee”.

The game was designed by Alper Gonen and Dogan Dipchin and published by Alper Gauguin. Unlike the Epic Games Store, Steam doesn’t usually give away games for free, so this is a welcome change of pace for the platform. Mido and Di will be available for free on the platform until May 2, 22:30.

Along with Mido and Dee, there are several other free games on Steam, including Elder Scrolls: Arena, Daggerfall, and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

Mido & D was originally conceived as an animated short film that Gonen and Deepchin spent 15 years writing but never finished. Though Gonen also explains that the game isn’t entirely story-driven as it focuses on frantic third-person shooting to create a chaotic and fun experience.

The game received mixed reviews on Steam based on 115 reviews and was released on November 23, 2021. The game has a rather idiosyncratic art style that sets it apart from many third-person shooters. Although the gameplay seems to lack the necessary polish, it looks like a fun pastime.

The gameplay feels like a mix between a third-person shooter and a DOTA-style tower defense game as the alien attack comes in waves. In total, players will have 3 types of weapons at their disposal to repel the oncoming wave of aliens. Once received during this period, players will be able to leave Mido and Dee in the library.
