Take-Two Interactive is shutting down Playdots to make room for Zynga

Zynga’s $12.7 billion acquisition sealed the future of American studio Playdots at Take-Two Interactive.

According to a notice of termination filed with the New York State Department of Labor, Take-Two Interactive liquidated Playdots two years after its acquisition, resulting in the loss of 65 jobs. While Playdots is best known for its Dots series (with over 50 million downloads on the Google Play Store), the New York-based studio has also developed several other games, including the recent Garden Tails for Apple Arcade. Please note that Two Dots services will continue at Zynga.

A spokesperson for Take-Two Interactive said:

Playdots employees will be able to apply for other positions at Zynga, and those who cannot find new roles may be eligible for severance pay. We believe this difficult decision will better align our resources with business needs in today’s dynamic marketplace.

Former Playdots CEO Nir Efrat is the head of the mobile division of American publisher Take-Two Interactive.
